How We Research

Where the information comes from

• Manufacturer manuals and spec sheets. Minimum cat weights, drum sizes, litter compatibility, filter schedules, and battery claims come from the maker's own documentation, and the guide says so.
• Independent reviews and teardowns. Published reviews from other outlets and technical breakdowns help confirm or challenge what the maker says. When we lean on one, we name it and link to it.
• Owner experience. Retailer reviews, forums, and owner communities show what happens after the first month: which parts break, which apps drop connection, which boxes cats refuse. We look for complaints that repeat across many owners, and we summarize them in our own words. We never copy other people's reviews or ratings.
• Recall and safety notices. We check the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and FDA pet food recall lists before recommending a product, and we update guides when something changes.
• Veterinary references, for background only. On health topics we read published veterinary sources such as the Cornell Feline Health Center, feline guidelines from the AAFP and AAHA, and the Merck Veterinary Manual, so the basics we explain are accurate. That background does not make us vets, and nothing here replaces one.

How picks are chosen

• We favor what holds up in homes with two or more cats: capacity, durability, and how a product copes with several cats sharing it.
• A pick needs a pattern of good owner experience across several sources, not one glowing review.
• Every guide covers the downsides of what it recommends, including our top picks.
• Commission rates never decide a pick. Where a product is sold by several retailers, we link to each and you choose.

What the labels mean

Every guide today carries a Research guide label. If we ever base a guide on using a product ourselves, it will be labeled Hands-on tested, and the guide will explain what we did, for how long, and what we found. Until then, we do not describe any product as if we had used it.

What we will never do

• Claim veterinary expertise or diagnose. Health sections explain what to ask your vet and when to call one.
• Copy reviews, star ratings, or review counts from other websites.
• Invent testimonials or quotes.
• Publish star ratings or live prices. You get a price range and a plain verdict; the retailer shows the current price.
• Accept payment for placement or a positive verdict. See our affiliate disclosure.

Updates and corrections

Every guide shows when it was last updated. We revisit guides when a product is revised, discontinued, or recalled, or when a repeated owner complaint appears. If something looks wrong or out of date, tell usand we will fix it.
